Porsche Updated 2023 911 GT3 RS Extensively, Doubled Its Downforce

Porsche has updated the 911 GT3 RS for the 2023 model year, including changes to its cooling and aerodynamics systems to improve driving and performance. The engineers have swapped the three-radiator system in the previous car with a new central radiator. It gave them room to fix fresh active aerodynamic parts on the front.

The result is 901 pounds (409 kilograms) of downforce at 124 miles per hour (200 kilometers per hour), which is double than 991.2-gen model, and 1,895 pounds (860 kg) at 177 mph (285 kph). Furthermore, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS becomes the first Porsche to get a drag reduction system.

Powertrain

The propulsion duty is entrusted to Porsche’s naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six mill creating 518 horsepower (386 kilowatts). The engine has added new camshafts with altered cam profiles, boasting a motorsport-stemmed single-throttle intake system. The engine pairs with Porsche’s seven-speed PDK gearbox.

Performance

The performance figures are as good as you would expect from a high-performance GT3 RS. A dash from 0 to 60 mph would take only 3.0 seconds or 3.2 seconds for 0 to 62 mph (100 kph). The car can run as fast as 184 mph (296 kph).

The six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes are standard, while a bigger Ceramic Composite Brake system is optional. Zigzagged 20- and 21-inch light-alloy center-lock wheels perform the running duty.

The 2023 911 GT3 RS has shed weight through Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), which is visible on doors, front wings, bucket seats, and lots of other places. Thanks to it, the performance car weighs only 3,268 lbs. (1,482 kg).

Packages

Porsche offers Clubsport package free of cost to buyers, but it is available in select markets. The package includes a steel rollover bar, a six-point seatbelt, and a hand-held fire extinguisher. The Weissach pack is an optional package comprising a carbon-weave finish on various exterior elements and more CFRP treatments, such as the front and rear anti-roll bars, the rear axle sheer panel, and the interior rollover bar. The Weissach pack also allows buyers to add magnesium forged wheels to reduce the car’s weight.

The new 911 GT3 RS grows broader than the GT3 with 1.14 inches (29 millimeters) wider track. More width requires changes to car suspension, and engineers added teardrop-shaped profiles to the double-wishbone front axle to boost the downforce by 88 lbs. (40 kg) at maximum speed.

Normal, Sport, and Track are three drive modes, with the latter permitting the driver to alter the front and rear axle damping, the rear differential, and other settings. We can see four rotary controls on the steering wheel for personal configurations and a DRS knob.

Price & Availability

The 2023 911 GT3 RS should hit the U.S. dealerships next spring at a starting price of $223,800, without the $1,450 destination fee.
