GM Launches OnStar In-Vehicle Safety and Security Technology in Kuwait

General Motors has launched OnStar in Kuwait, an opt-in subscription-based technology, offering the widest range of in-vehicle safety and security services to drivers. Built into the vehicle and powered by an embedded SIM, OnStar offers a range of innovative and connected services such as Automatic Crash Response, Stolen Vehicle Alert and Vehicle Diagnostics.

You can access these features through two OnStar buttons in the vehicle, connecting you to a human to get you the right help. Through sensors in the vehicle, OnStar can also call for help in an emergency, even if you can’t. OnStar enables the underlying connectivity in GM vehicles and is accessible on most 2021 GM vehicles such as the Chevrolet Tahoe, the GMC Yukon, and the Cadillac Escalade to name a few The brands now offer in-vehicle Wi-Fi plans – a first for the region.

What is OnStar?

OnStar enables the underlying connectivity in GM brands, using technology to connect to a human with just one push of a button, to enable safety and security, as well as convenience and innovation. By pushing the OnStar Blue Button, drivers can connect to an OnStar Advisor for non-emergency support, such as to run an On-Demand Diagnostic check or request a Destination Download, while the OnStar Red Button can be used for assistance in an emergency.

With Connected Services members can also use their myChevrolet, myGMC or myCadillac Apps to control and stay up to date on their vehicle. They also get access to a personal Owner Center portal where they can self-service wherever they are., in addition to Wi-Fi through a powerful hotspot that connects up to 7 devices.

General Motors created OnStar in 1995 with assistance from Hughes Electronics and Electronic Data Systems. The system was first inaugurated in different Cadillac cars of the 1997 model year. Now, Kuwait is the first market in the Middle East to launch this pioneering service.

How Does OnStar Work?

OnStar is an opt-in subscription-based service, connecting you with a regional Connected Contact Centre available to help you 24/7 at the push of a button in your vehicle or in a crash situation through built-in sensors. All GM vehicles, including Cadillacs, Chevrolets, and GMCs, that are equipped with OnStar, are capable of assessing data from both the onboard diagnostics (OBD-II) system and built-in GPS. The available Connect or Protect Plan starts at KWD 7.990 per month for each plan separately, while customers looking to bundle and save can subscribe to both services for KWD 10.990. The in-vehicle Wi-Fi Plan starts at KWD 3.500 for 5GB of data per month and is available for monthly renewal.
Regardless of which plan a driver subscribes to, upon onboarding they will get up to 10 years of standard connectivity services free of charge, with access to Vehicle Diagnostics, Diagnostics Alert, Dealer Maintenance Notification and Smart Driver.

How Can I Activate OnStar in Kuwait?

A Chevrolet, GMC or Cadillac customer can activate OnStar Connected Services and Data in Kuwait by simply pushing the blue button if their car is equipped with OnStar and speaking to an Advisor.
