Lexus has updated its smallest crossover, the UX, for the 2023 model year. While you may not find many changes on the outside, there are multiple changes under the skin that make the 2023 Lexus UX safer, more entertaining, and more advanced. However, perhaps the biggest change for the North American market is UX’s strong push for electrification. For the 2023 model year, the UX will be accessible in a Hybrid powertrain only. Keeping the powertrain aside, here are the changes.

2023 UXh Changes

New Infotainment

Let’s start with the interior that gets Lexus’s new infotainment system, operating through either 8-inch or 12.3-inch touchscreen. The system now renders sharper resolution and is capable of receiving over-the-air (OTA) updates that will boost its functionality over time. The infotainment system allows connectivity via Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

The Safety Connect Services comprises “Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), 24/7 Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Locator, and Collision Assistance with a 3-year trial service.”

Giving the new infotainment system a helping hand is the revised multimedia system. The engineers have fitted two more USB charging ports and relocated the heated seat buttons to the right of the gear shift lever. Previously, they were placed under the dash. Listening to the feedback, engineers ditched the touchpad and made the wireless charging pad larger than the previous model. LED ambient lighting is there to improve the occupant’s mode.

The new Lexus Interface multimedia system also supports Voice Assistant that awakens through “Hey Lexus” or through a button on the steering wheel.

Non-visible Changes

Visible changes aside, Lexus has made several non-visible modifications, starting with 20 spot welding points. These points locate around the side and back doors to increase body rigidity. Other than that, the company examined the UX at the Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama to enhance its electric power steering, shock absorbers, and other components. Additionally, the drive has been made slightly quieter than before through the latest run-flat tires.

2023 Lexus UXh F Sport Preview

Those seeking the sporty feel and handling can opt for the 2023 UXh F Sport, which comes with adaptive variable suspension and Yamaha-created performance dampers to refine handling. The interior also complements this sportiness with sports seats and a distinct steering wheel. Besides, the designers added aluminum pedals and a unique design for the shift knob. Other additions to the UXh F Sport are an aluminum footrest and scuff plate.

The new infotainment isn’t the only upgrade in the tech realm. The automaker has also transformed the vehicle’s digital key into a smartphone app. The display screen acts as a panoramic view monitor that presents the vehicle image from all sides through its front, back, and side cams. Moreover, Lexus has made several improvements in the safety tech thanks to the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 preventive safety technology with an enhanced single-lens camera and millimeter-wave radar.

The 2023 Lexus UX will hit the roads in most parts of the world this summer.
