The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee debuts with new architecture, design, first PHEV variant, and advanced safety features. The luxurious SUV will hit the dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2021, but the 4xe plug-in hybrid variant will arrive at the start of next year. There is a long list of variants in the range, including Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Summit, and Summit Reserve.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee gives you three powertrain choices. The least powerful engine is a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 generating 293 hp (219 kilowatts) and 260 pound-feet (348 Newton-meters of torque with 6,200 pounds (2,812 kilograms) of towing capability. The second in line is the 5.7-litre V8 churning out 357 hp (266 kW) and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm), with a tow rating of 7,200 pounds (3,265 kilograms).

The 4xe plug-in hybrid is the new powertrain you can opt for on the Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve variants. The powertrain consists of a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, and a 17 kWh battery creating a total power output of 375 hp (280 kW) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm). The 400-volt, 17-kilowatt-hour battery is capable of delivering 25 miles (40 kilometres) of range on pure electric power. With the hybrid powertrain, the SUV can tow 6,000 pounds (2,720 kilograms).

Comparing the two-row Grand Cherokee with its three-row counterpart, the former is obviously shorter – around 11.4 inches, to be exact. The wheelbase is also 5 inches shorter than the Grand Cherokee L. However, the new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee has grown in passenger volume and cargo space compared to the outgoing model. The passenger volume improved by 4.1 cubic feet (0.11 cubic meters) while the cargo room grew by 1.4 cubic meters (0.04 cubic meters).

For off-roading enthusiasts, Jeep offers the Trailhawk with the Quadra-Lift air suspension system with up to 11.3 inches (28.7 centimetres) of ground clearance and the Quadra-Drive II active transfer case with the electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential. There is a slight difference in suspension and ground clearance for the plug-in hybrid Trailhawk.

The most luxurious option in the range is the Summit Reserve, offering Palermo leather upholstery and a 950-watt, 19-speaker McIntosh stereo. Jeep has added a lot of tech inside the new Grand Cherokee. We are talking about 10.1-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment display, as well as an elective 10.0-inch head-up display. Furthermore, buyers can also opt for a 10.25-inch display for the front passenger.

The rear-seat entertainment system brings Amazon Fire TV functionality to watch Prime Video content on the go and allows you to download videos. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a very safe utility vehicle because of its long list of standard safety tech. Features like collision warning with active braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, rear cross-path detection, adaptive cruise control, active lane management, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, advanced brake assist, blind-spot monitoring, and parking sensors all come standard. On the other hand, a night vision camera, intersection collision assist, and drowsy driver detection are optional. The pricing information isn’t available yet. Source and Images: Motor1
