Ford has added a trim level in the 2021 Explorer lineup featuring extra off-road capabilities. Named Timberline, it comes with standard all-wheel drive, a lifted suspension, and all-terrain tires, in addition to other facilities.
What makes it different from the standard 2021 Explorer is a unique grille, red tow hooks, front and rear skid plates, and 18-inch wheels. Besides, a new Forged Green color is also exclusive to this model.
To make it more off-road capable, Ford has added a 0.8-inch suspension lift, retuned springs, Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tires, and a Torsen limited-slip rear differential. Moreover, it uses upgraded yet retuned shocks Ford has used in Police Interceptor Explorer.
Inside the 2021 Explorer Timberline, you can see stone mesh dashboard trim, cloth inserts for the seats, as well as get heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
The only engine option is a turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four generating 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. With a standard towing package, it can tow 5300 pounds.
The new Explorer Timberline should hit the roads this summer at starting price of $47,010. In the lineup hierarchy, it will sit between the XLT and Limited variants.
