The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan R has been spotted testing at Nurburg0ring, and it seems the SUV is carrying an Audi sourced five-cylinder engine.
It is not a surprise that an R badged variant of the Volkswagen Tiguan is about to launch, what’s interesting is that it will carry Audi’s 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder, which would definitely render a spectacular performance. The same 2.5L turbo engine delivers 395 horsepower in Audi RS3 and TT RS. That being said, we don’t expect the Tiguan R deliver this much power.
According to one source, the engine will be revised to match the VW Golf R that produces 306 horsepower. Paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission, the Tiguan R will be capable of touching the 60 mph in about 5.0 seconds.
Talking about the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan R design, it seems to be equipped with some impressive elements such as large dual exhaust tips, a bold front grille, and upgraded bumpers. Since the Volkswagen Tiguan shares its platform with the Golf R, so we expect it to share some of the components from the hot hatch.
We don’t know yet when Tiguan R would arrive at the dealerships, but we expect it to make its public appearance sometime in 2018, probably at the Geneva Motor Show.
